The Missouri Job Centers at Joplin, Monett, and Neosho are pleased to announce a new fast-track training program designed to help better equip job seekers with the in-demand skills employers need. Don’t let cheesy reality TV shows fool you. With an ideal mix of short-term training and work experience related to the field, career readiness programs offer a no-hassle way to learn high-demand skills to quickly land a great job. Most career readiness programs have financial aid to avoid loading up tons of debt common with traditional college programs. Career Readiness Programs are now being offered in Building Trades, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Early Childhood Education, with more coming soon.

The most recent Building Trades Career Readiness program included partnerships with Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri, the Carpenters Union, and IBEW.  This program includes four weeks of training followed by paid work experience opportunities.

Training Covered Available

(Building Trades Career Readiness Program)

The first week of training covers soft skill expectations of employers, resume preparation, and the National Career Readiness Certificate. The following weeks dig in with worksite safety, basic construction skills, electrical training with electrical safety and basic electrical work. The program covers safety and medical training such as OSHA-10, first aid, CPR, and forklift operation. After completing all requirements the program features paid internships for participants to put their skills to work.

(Early Childhood Education Career Readiness Program)

Course Description: The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is a way for child care professionals to substantially increase your knowledge of the early care and education best practices, demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the area of early childhood care and education, and advance your career in a meaningful way.  After completion of this CDA coursework, there are additional steps candidates will have to complete in order to receive their official CDA Credential from the Council for Professional Recognition. ***

The Ribbon Cutting/Open House was a HUGE SUCCESS!

Thanks to everyone that celebrated the Ribbon Cutting/Open House at The Plaza Community Access Center(open soon)!

WELCOME TO THE PLAZA (NEW Community Center in Carthage)!!  The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of SW Missouri is proud to announce the completion of the Building Trades Career Readiness Program in Carthage, MO!  Participants remodeled the BRAND NEW Community Center, THE PLAZA, for the entire community to utilize.

“This center was built for everyone.  The PLAZA is a place to study, explore and even find career assistance.  We are including our very first, ACCESS POINT – a free opportunity to job search, train, complete resumes and more…” says Sherri Rhuems, Executive Director, Workforce Investment Board of SW Missouri.  The entire community is invited to celebrate with us and see is available for FREE!

Congratulations to our Pre-Apprentice Graduates of the Building Trades Career Readiness Program!

These graduates had an opportunity to obtain paid training, OSHA 10 certification, Forklift Operator Certification, CPR & First Aid Training & Certification and more.

A Building Trades Hiring Event was held from 2pm to 5pm at the PLAZA Community Access Center!!  This event was attended by the graduates of the Building Trades Career Readiness Program, Carthage technical Center Construction Students and FREE to the Public.  Thanks to all the employers that helped make this a very special day!
